The Rainbow Flag
The flag for the whole LGBTQIA+ community.
Gives the petals a makeover across the site. Saved only on this device.Where it comes from
Designed by Gilbert Baker for San Francisco's Gay Freedom Day in 1978. His first flag had eight stripes; the six-stripe version became the standard within a year or two, partly because some fabric colors were hard to get.
What the colors mean
- Life
- Healing
- Sunlight
- Nature
- Serenity
- Spirit
Meanings are the ones the designers and community have shared. Lots of people make their own, and that's valid too.
